Should be: “Sarah Kelly – vocalist, pianist, worship leader, songwriter, artist and anointed speaker touched deep into the souls of the Rock Church members as the Holy Spirit has obviously called her to minister for such a time as this!”

When I first met Sarah, I knew we would be friends...not because we share the same last name, but because Sarah was willing to meet our church where we are and give all of who she is for the glory of God. Sarah trusted our House Band to arrange, rehearse and accompany the tunes she would do on Sunday, allowing our team (not her own) to be blessed by the collaboration. She unselfishly said to me, “I can sing one song, sing background vocals, lead with your team...whatever you want.” That, to me, is the essence of who Sarah Kelly is not only with her music, but her life: a servant. She shared her testimony with such conviction one could hear a pin drop. She belted out vocals that soared to the rooftops! For the unchurched who are drawn in by some form of “entertainment” (yes, the taboo word in church), she entertained. And for the mature Christian, she worshipped God with passion and vulnerability – and as a result the church experienced the living Christ. It was one of my favorite Sundays since I’ve been on staff... and you will experience it firsthand when you have Sarah minister to yours.

If I were to be honest, I’d have to admit that I am not a big fan of the Christian music “scene”. It is, sadly, looking a lot like the secular music scene in that there are a lot of “cookie-cutter” artists out there who, while often talented, may or may not be deserving of success as much as they are simply chosen to fit a mold. On the other hand, I have only praise and appreciation for Sarah Kelly. She is an artist who breaks the mold in many ways – an authentic example of a worthy artist simply expressing their love of God through voice and song regardless of the market, the image du’jour, or the latest trends in Christian music. She deserves to be heard and I hold her in high regard as an example of what this industry could be – a place where pure, raw, un-programmed talent that is expressed through devotion to Christ not only receives due recognition but then uses that recognition to point people to their Creator.
